my system specs are at bottom of message
Problem: No sound at all for live TV in Mythtv 0.16 using sblive patched cable from line out of tv card to line in of sound card. set mixer before stating mythtvfrontend per instructions from command line:
amixer set Master,0 100%,100% unmute
amixer set Line,0 75%,75% mute captur
amixer set Capture,0 100%,100% captur
what I did:
made sure esd and artsd not running killallesd says esd: no process killed
I rebooted when I changed the modules.conf
misc notes:
why does it say Opening OSS audio device '/dev/dsp'. when starting mythfrontend? shouldn't that say opening alsa instead of oss?
After I tried everything I played with kmixer and there is an ac97 volume control on that. If I turn that up I get high pitched constant noise.
tests:
aplay /usr/share/sounds/info.wav works
xmms test mp3 works
xawtv works with sound
tried this next test which failed per troubleshooting section:
A better test to verify that sound will work for MythTV (and recording with xawtv for that matter) is to startup xawtv, mute the line-in then run aplay /dev/dsp. You should hear the recorded audio slightly delayed behind the real-time video. Once this test succeeds, MythTV should work correctly because it writes to and read from /dev/dsp in the same way that aplay does.
here is what I got:
Playing raw data '/dev/dsp' : Unsigned 8 bit, Rate 8000 Hz, Mono

What does underrun mean?
when mythfront and back are running did a fuser -v /dev/dsp
