[mythtv-users] Tainted Kernel and Obsolete Parameters

Here's what I understand the messages to mean:
Tainted Kernel - You have loaded a kernel module that
does not comply with one of the permitted licenses for
kernel modules. This isn't really much of a problem,
all it means is that if you get a kernel panic, or
some other sort of issue, and you report it on the
Linux Kernel mailing-list, they'll disregard your bug
report (and tell you to reproduce it without the
module).

Please try dxs_support=1 or dxs_support=4 option and
report if it works on your machine - The VIA 82xx
driver (and some others, notably the intel8x0)
natively support 48KHz output, instead of the normal
44.1KHz (though I could be wrong on this). Probably
setting 44.1KHz output (typical CD audio rate) is
dependant on the specific chip, so they suggest a
couple of options you can pass to the module to remedy
the problem (and report if you're successful). Or,
DXS could be something else (as I have noticed a few
DXS sliders in alsamixer).

Tuner Type was unset - Again, I don't have an HDTV
card, but my guess is that the driver tried check the
tuner type (which is in most cards programmed into an
EEPROM chip on the card), and failed. From there, it
checked the PCI ID, and realized that it was supposed
to use a certain tuner type (which is a reasonable
assumption, unless they change the hardware on the
card without changing the PCI ID).

Ignoring new-style parameters in presence of obsolete
ones - My best guess is that modprobe.conf contains
some old-style (previous driver version?) options, so
the driver is gracefully falling back to the old
command parameters, while encouraging you to use the
new ones. Again, just a guess.
