[mythtv-users] can't get live tv

Hello,

I have posted once before and didn't send the mail from the account
associated to the group, so was refused by the mod.

I have configured mythtv on a system that is:

ECS k7vta3 Motherboard with integrated via82xx sound
AMD XP 2700 barton processor
1 Gig of pc2700 memory
Nvidia fx 5200 vid card with dvi and svideo out.

I am currently testing with this connected to my monitor.

I can watch tv just fine with xawtv and tvtime, however as soon as I start
mythtv live tv I get snow and no output. I have read of audio settings
messing with tv etc. I have played with audio a bit. It works for live tv
with the above mentioned programs.

As far as audio goes, I have muted line and run $aplay /dev/dsp and either
get nothing, after making some changes to the modprobe.conf file and
restarting alsasound and reloading the drivers I have obtained ticking and
popping, and once I got really bad sound. I don't know how I had it
configured since the sound was so bad I changed the settings again. So much
for note taking!

I am installed on Fedora core @ per Jared's docs. There are plenty of
differences that I did document while doing the install.

I have started mythtv from the command line to see what errors are dumped to
the console. and have viewed the logs. Here is that information:
mythtv]# /usr/bin/mythtv
mythtv: could not connect to socket
mythtv: Connection refused
lirc_init failed for mythtv, see preceding messages

2004-08-20 17:36:10 Changing from WatchingLiveTV to None
2004-08-20 17:36:11 Changing from None to None

I am assuming that the last two lines are from when I pressed Q or control
c?

Whether here on the console or in the actual mythtv front-end, tv does not
work. I did do some recording the other evening which can be played back,
yet with no sound. I can not record now. Again, I think that had to do with
all the changes I have made with my modprobe.conf.

The tuner is a lifeview flyvideo2000 fm. I also have a Generic bttv card
which I have not managed to get working with the stand alone tv apps. it is
a "Super TvTuner.

All NTSC and us-bcast

Aside from the modules config which I still don't have dialed in for sound.
Are there any other configs that can be managed from the command line or in
files rather then from the gui? What should I do to troubleshoot further?

I have been all over the alsa pages and searching google for info on making
these via chips work. apt-get had pulled down a newer version of alsa which
their page actually mentions this motherboard on. That didn't help.

Please provide input, I have worked on this late every night this week and
would like to be able to enjoy the fruits of my labor.

If it is of any value, I can provide xvinfo or any other diagnostics
necessary. Just let me know?

Thanks,

Jon
