[mythtv-users] Playback/TV display failing

Try running the frontend from a command prompt and see if you are
getting a "BadAlloc" error from X when the problem occurs. If so, the
problem is with the X.org distro of X. The only way I've found to fix
the problem is to switch back to an XFREE distro of X.
