I just grabbed the latest CVS and I'm seeing this, too, but I'm not 
using a M179 card, so I suspect something more sinister here.

I'm using an external USB sound card, and I have to use the alsamixer 
to change and reset the input recording line for it to pick up sound 
again.  Very annoying having a lot of my recordings come out with no 
sound!
