[mythtv-users] Consistent Crash On First Run

hi guys,

after getting stuck with fedora core 2, i switched to fc1 and following 
jarod's guide i've finally got a working set up :-) i must say that i am 
eternally grateful to isaac, jarod and axel for making the whole process so 
easy. the work you guys have done has helped thousands of people (and saved 
millions of hair follicles!). it might seem like everyone has problems, but 
that's just because that's usually the only people you actually hear from, 
and for every person with serious problems, there's problably ten who've 
followed things through and not had any problems.

okay, arse kissing over :P having completed my install i'm having a rather 
strange problem, in that the first time i run mythfronted after boot, it 
crashes with no errors printed to the console. although when i go back to 
the console, ctrl-c to close it, then run it again, it works fine (and all 
features are working for me, live tv, epg, recording, dvd, weather, news, 
web, etc.). the first time it is run, sometimes it gets to the menu's but 
keyboard/lirc input does nothing at it seems that it has crashed, sometimes 
it doesn't get that far and all you see is the background image. like i say, 
there are no errors to the console (i.e. output is exactly the same the 2nd 
time it is run, and that time it works!).

as you can tell i'm a bit of a noob, so i'm not quite sure what are the best 
things to post here (in terms of information for diagnosis). in 
/var/log/mythtv there is only a mythbackend.log and not mythfrontend so 
nowhere to see errors. has anyone else experienced this before? searching 
the archives hasn't yielded anything (although it may just be that i can't 
get the right keywords. first, run, crash, hang, lockup aren't exactly very 
specific!). let me know what i can provide to be of more help. it's probably 
not very helpful, but i'm running pretty much everything as per jarod's 
guide: -

fedora core 1
axel's kernel (2.4.22-1.2197.nptl_51.rhfc1.at)
kde (auto-mount turned off, mythbackend run as service automatically)
pvr 250
ivtv, mythtv, lirc all installed with apt last friday (30th).
