[mythtv-users] references to "significant other"

I think we should refer to them as "womyn" because we don't want to be derogatory due to the appearance of the word "men" in "women". This might be misconstrued as an insult to the womyn of the world.

I also don't think we should use "my wife" as this definitely implies ownership. WAF should also not be used due to the fact that this implies that "the wife" gains appreciation directly from the activities of the oppressive male. This is insulting to the psyche of the womyn and is very offending to the goddess in general.

I also believe the word "girlfriend" should no longer be used. Should womyn be subjected to this brash insulting language improperly discriminating them from any other friend? Are they now to be looked down on just because of their sex? You don't call male friends "boyfriends" do you? The level of insult, especially in the guise of this mailing list being a technical opensource project, is appalling. What gets me really steamed is that this is supposed to be someone special and you chastise them by having the insulting title of "girlfriend" as their reference. For shame!! The only compromise is that we refer to them as "the equal of me" or possibly "the partner in cohabitation".

Is it just me but when people say "I'm not trying to be PC", it's basically an admission they are. I find this world a much better place when people spend more time trying to be happy-go-lucky then attempting to find numerous reasons to get offended.

My 2 cents of course...don't mean to offend ;)

Huh?

You don't want people to use the word "wife" when referring to
their wives? Or is it "the wife" vs. "my wife" that you're off
about? I suppose "the wife" is a bit vague it could
(grammatically, anyway) be referring to any particular wife and
not just that of the writer.

How do you feel about the phrase "she who must be obeyed"? ;)

[Extra geek points for anybody whos currently got an episode of
Rompole on their drive.]
