IMNSHO ivor's driver gives better quality than the binary from via (i've tried
both). i can even compile on my epia-m9000 while i'm watching live-tv! beat
that.

there is a wiki with a howto (google search for "gentoo mythtv howto wiki" and
it is top of the list):
http://www.alterself.com/~epia/wiki/tiki-index.php?page=EpiaHowto
i used it and it is very good!

i built a stage 1 gentoo 2004.0 on the box from the bare metal. i have had
very few problems doing that. but i have to say, that i had spent the
previous 15 months getting a debian system to the same place. so i knew all
the problems/pitfalls. i still cannot get the volume control in myth to
control the volume of the spdif output from the motherboard to my
amp/speakers. i know this works (or at least i think i do) because i had it
working at one stage.
to be honest; if this is your first trip into linux land, you are going to
find it heavy going.
