Actually, I was completely mistaken, and it wasn't at all necessary for
what I was covering (the PVR-250 remote interface). Some lirc drivers
do require that serial support be switched from compiled in to modular,
but I've never touched them myself. I dug up an old copy containing the
bit about it, and I see what you're referring to. Just beware that I
didn't have such a good grasp of things when I first wrote that. ;-p

Starting to make more sense to me now, but I don't have a clue what
needs doing with the serial control of the cable box. I need to start
looking into how to control my DCT5100 though...
