[mythtv-users] Filesystems & myth (formerly on the Dev list)

A few nights ago I freed up some space and made a 2gb XFS partition, to test
XFS's performance with the ringbuffer (ok, more specific: to try & speed up
my channel changes).

Overall channel change speed has not changed much, except that it's more
consistent. The problem of watching one channel for a while then having
channel-change take forever, has disappeared. Overall any channel-change
for me now takes right at 4 seconds. This is with myth CVS as of 9/17.
Soon I will update cvs & try deleting a large file by hand (by letting the
buffer get really large I presume). But IIRC the cvs change to not
truncate the buffer was in before 9/17. Keep in mind also that this is the
same disk that houses my OS and everything else. So before anyone throws a
major hissy-fit, I'm not posting this to say "channel change speed is still
sloooow", just that filesystem type may not be the only indicator. Possibly
a dedicated disk drive for myth would be of help as well... this I can test
later, when funds are available...
