[mythtv-users] Is the pchdtv card looking good?

Theoretically it should be just as good. In fact the only real questions
are of the reception quality of the card and the display quality of
Myth. Since the HDTV signal is digital it's just like any other digital
signal, all or nothing. So the data stream your accessdtv picks up
should in theory be identical to the one the pchdtv picks up. The
differences then come down to which card picks up the stream better, or
which tuner is better. As for that matter I can't say one way or the
other. I would imagine they're very similar, but then I've seen tests of
STB receivers which had vastly different abilities to tune a digital
signal. As for the display quality of Myth I think that's pretty darn
good. I still need to hook up a good VGA to component adapter to it, but
even with S-Video out I've been very happy. Again, though, since it's
digital data, what is displayed on your screen should be nearly
identical with the pchdtv and accessdtv cards. Granted there is the
matter of different mpeg2 decoders having different quality, but I
believe they'd be very comparable. Anyway, hope that helps a little.
Once I get up the nerve I'll drop the few hundred bucks to get the card
and VGA to component adapter. My cheap MythTV box certainly does seem to
be getting more expensive :) Let us know if you get it what your
experience is.

Subject: [mythtv-users] Is the pchdtv card looking good?
Hello,
I currently use an AccessDTV (www.accessdtv.com) digital tuner card with
my Windows based HTPC, and I really love the quality of the digital
broadcasts. The biggest problem is that the recording tools suck.
So...
I am really itching to switch to a MythTV setup, but I don't want to do
it if I will be sacrificing quality. I'm not too concerned with
compiling/tweaking/playing with the system - in fact that sounds like
part of the fun. I'm more concerned with the video and audio quality.
Can someone comment on the video and audio quality of the new Linux HD
tuner card (www.pchdtv.com)? Does it stand up well against the
Windows-only varieties (AccessDTV, MyHD, WinTV-HD, etc...)
Thanks,
-Larry
