Not to mention, projects like MythTV and V4L(2) will adapt to any new 
hardware, technologies, or standards... And you can bet that the cable 
companies will be forced to retain backward compatibility with RF (coax 
channel 2/3), Composite, and S-Video or they will lose a large 
percentage of their paying customer base.  I know quite a number of 
people with ancient TVs still not capable of tuning channels greater 
than 13, that have to use screw-on adapter to hook cable up to their 
antenna binding posts, and/or use external converters.

Hell, I'm using a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 converter to receive 
Digital Cable to my MythTV box.  There isn't any other option available 
to me that I am aware of, although i'd love to have a receiver card for 
the PC so I can do away with the SA2000 box entirely.
