[mythtv-users] IR transmitter and receiver recommendation

The great thing about the schematics on LIRC is that both the TX and RX
use different pins on the serial port to function. It is not to hard to
create a single schematic using one serial port. I would recommend
building up a combo circuit on a breadboard and test it out with the
lirc serial driver. The only pin that you will have to share is ground
between the 2 circuits. Once you have it all working, you can either go
the route of soldering the components together (less than 2o for both),
or you can design a PCB and make something a little cleaner. I'm using
this set up to control a Qwest (Next Level) VDSL TV box and it works
great.

Hope This Helps

Subject: [mythtv-users] IR transmitter and receiver recommendation

Dear MythTV users,
I have a mythtv box completely setup except for one piece.. the IR
interface.. I am needing both transmitting and receiving, as I am
needing to control an AT&T cable box from the mythtv system.. Currently
I do not have any IR devices for the system.. The system has 2 serial
and has USB ports.. What device is recommended for ease of use/setup,
and low cost. I have been looking through schematics of the IR
transmitter and IR receiver on the LIRC page, but from what I've read I
would only be able to use one or the other as lirc doesn't support
controlling two devices..
Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks
Eddie
