Interesting.  I have what might actually be an older IV or a V, can't quite remember, but if you isolate it from the case appropriately, it is just completely silent.  A friend sleeping in the same room as the machine reports that in the dead of night you can *just* about hear it when it first starts to do soemthing, but after that you can no longer hear it again.  I don't think that I have AM enabled either...

I have mine place on the bottom of the case in a horizontal position and there is some tape to stop it falling on it's side...
