Mine doesn't.  It's a SATA drive and I confirmed the AM issue with the Seagate tech center and I posted a link a few weeks back to a website which said the same thing.  Also another user on the list tried the windows tools as well (I think).

It really does seem that there is NO accoustic management on at least a large number of these drives (there could well be different revisions I guess?)

Also, the "V" is quite a bit cooler than my current 7200.7.  My 7200.7 is also INCREDIBLY noisy, way more than a couple of db.  However, a seagate tech support chap thinks the drive could be duff...  We shall see in about 2 weeks time when it comes back from the menders.

However, anyone looking for massive storage should definitely consider the 300GB Maxtor.  Nice disk IMHO (not a rocket ship though)
