Oh, I am running .11 not .12, which is available through apt-get.
Yea, X-Windows and even mythfrontend work fine.  Basically, when I try 
to "watch tv"  I just get a blank screen, so I'm assuming the video is 
going out via S-Video and not to my screen.  Maybe I'm wrong, but I 
*can* run the mplayer test after a video capture.
