Just an FYI to anyone doing a fresh install. After
exchanging emails with Jarod last night, I decided to
do a clean installation as he had made many changes to
his documentation. Jarod, if you're reading this I
have a few notes that I will be sending you once the
install is complete.
I did run into an issue that I've never seen before.
I've installed IVTV well over 20 times and although I
could never get it running, last nights apt-get did
not go well.
# apt-get install ivtv-kmdl-$KERNEL
# apt-get install ivtv
Then I would attempt to run
# kedit
to modify the /etc/modules.conf. The result was
"Segmentation Fault". Hmmm, strange as I had used
kedit a few minutes earlier. I tried kate and the same
result. Next I rebooted my Myth box, after login, I
failed to load KDE and got the following, "Could not
start kdeinit, check your installation.." Baffeled, I
tried restarting and the same error.
>From the Linux I've picked up, I booted into safe mode
and ran rpm -e ivtv. Removal went fine, bounced back
into GUI login screen, logged in and KDE came up fine
as did kedit and kate.
I'm inclined to think that the ivtv install broke
something. Any thoughts? BTW, I'm running RH9, latest
athlon kernel from Axel on an MSI mb.
