Does the order of installation matter? As it doesn't work for me here at all. 
 I installed:

MythTVFilters-0.3.1.exe

then tried to playback an mpeg4 nuv, with no joy, re-read the readme and 
installed:

ffdshow-20030523.exe

Fired up WMP and attempted to open one of the nuv files I had from before I 
got my pvr250. I get message about unrecognized file extension to which I 
click, yes to play this file and then get error:

Windows Media Player encountered an unknown error.

This is on Windows 2000pro with WMP9
