Wow that's weird.  

That's probably the new picture attribute adjustment
code that lets you adjust the brightness, contrast,
saturation and hue per frontend.

Type f to toggle between the 5 attributes (the 4
mentioned above + volume), then use left and right to
adjust.

But it should start you out at the standard settings
when you upgrade, so I'm confused why this would have
started you out in a weird state.  

Please take note (and send back to the list!) of what
the initial values are of these settings before you
readjust them.  Brightness, Contrast and "Colour"
should start at 50%, Hue should start at 0%...
