I have a PNY FX5200 (which has a fan) and am using the current nVidia
drivers in apt (1.0_4363-14.rh9.at) running under RedHat 9. I do not
experience any issues when switching between X and the consoles. I have
not tried the card under Windows so I can't give any specifics on that
platform.

The card works well, has a DVI out (for future compatibility with a plasma...), but do be aware that it seems to be too new to be supported on older nvidia drivers. For example booting Knoppix usually brings up a black screen. Also, Win XP (if you use that for any testing), wouldn't do anything except call it a standard vga card.
