[mythtv-users] Cool ATX cases

OK, I got my system stuffed into my brand new Antec Overture case, and I'm
quite happy with it. It's quiet, attractive, and less expensive than many of
the higher-end cases. Everthing fit easily, but I have five assembly notes.

1) The ATX power cord is too short if your motherboard of choice has it's
power connector by the IO plate. It simply won't reach. Figure on a few
bucks for a ATX power extension cable.

2) The CPU cooler can't be too large. I have a coolermaster DP5-7JD1B-0L on
a Chaintech 7NIF2 motherboard, and it fits perfectly. But if it extended
over the top clip at all, it wouldn't be able to fit. Not a big deal, but
something to be aware of.

3) The front face is silver, and the blank faceplates are, too. A black
drive would look pretty good up there, but I wanted something that would
match even better, so I carefully painted my DVD-ROM faceplate. I used
Rust-Oleum Metallic series 7271 Silver spraypaint. I wasn't quite happy with
the sheen on it, so I knocked it down a bit with steel wool, and it matches
the blanks perfectly. I'm really really happy with that.

4) My home-assembled IR receiver has an eye that is quite small. I ran it up
to the row of little holes that line the top and bottom of the silver area.
I have the eye taped behind one of the holes and it seem to be working good.
Totally invisible. I know that doesn't help a lot of people, but if you
built your own IR receiver, it might be useful to know.

5) It is quite deep (19"+). Make sure your home entertainment center can
handle that. All these cases seem to have that issue, though.

By the way, that CPU fan is the loudest component in my system, and it's the
quietest I could find. I have no worries about the PS fan or the case fan.

Cheers,
-Shane
