I hate to reply to my own message, but for all of you Gentoo users out
there, the problem is solved with a "forced" upgrade. Do the following:

- Go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/xmltv and download
  xmltv-0.5.23.tar.bz2. Put it in /usr/portage/distfiles
- cp /usr/portage/media-tv/xmltv/xmltv-0.5.21.ebuild
  /usr/portage/media-tv/xmltv/xmltv-0.5.23.ebuild
- ebuild /usr/portage/media-tv/xmltv/xmltv-0.5.23.ebuild digest
- emerge /usr/portage/media-tv/xmltv/xmltv-0.5.23.ebuild

That took care of it for me. Running
/usr/share/mythtv/mythfilldatabase.cron then completed with no errors...
