Well, I can't help you with your crash, but I can tell you that 
exporting to SVCD will not get you a DVD-compliant MPEG stream.  SVCD is 
480x480, which is not a legal/valid DVD resolution.  However, you could 
simply create an SVCD, which will play on many commercial standalone DVD 
players.
