[mythtv-users] No audio capture on /dev/dsp (Pundit)

Due to a drive failure, I've had to rebuild my Myth box from scratch.
(The drive was a 4 month old Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 160 GB, if anyone is
looking for a good drive to avoid.)  Anyway, most of the install went
fine except I cannot get audio from by bttv card onto /dev/dsp.  I'm
running RedHat 9 (2.4.20-9) with ALSA on an Asus Pundit.  The audio out
from the TV tuner is cabled into the 4 pin audio in jack on the
motherboard.  Everything seems to be find, except that I cannot get the
tuner audio captured no matter what.  (Audio out works fine when playing
from mplayer, and xawtv and Myth both display the TV image without a
problem.) I've tried the mixer settings in the How-To guide without any
success.  I've also tried setting Captur to Line, Line1 and CD and none
of them work.

I'm just about at my wit's end here.  Any suggestions?

PS - I know that this isn't really a Myth problem, but there aren't too
many other places on the net where you can find so many experts on ALSA
and Pundits.
