As an additional data point, I'm having this exact problem
with transcoding. I have RH9, recipe installed fresh
0.12 (not 0.11 upgrade).

A friend of mine has no problems transcoding, but he can't
remember if he did fresh 0.12 or an upgrade from 0.11.

Here's a manual transcode run:

[mythtv at proteus store]$ mythtranscode -c 1050 -s 2003-11-04T23:00:00 -p autodetect -d -l
2003-11-07 13:51:22 Transcoding from /vol/store//1050_20031104230000_20031104233000.nuv to /vol/store//1050_20031104230000_20031104233000.nuv.tmp
Input #0, mpeg, from '/vol/store//1050_20031104230000_20031104233000.nuv':
 Stream #0.0: Video: mpeg2video, 720x480, 29.97 fps, 6000 kb/s
 Stream #0.1: Audio: mp2, 48000 Hz, stereo, 384 kb/s
strange error flushing buffer ...
Segmentation fault

[mythtv at proteus store]$ ls -l /vol/store//1050_20031104230000_20031104233000.nuv.tmp
-rw-r--r-- 1 mythtv mythtv 1595623 Nov 7 13:51 /vol/store//1050_20031104230000_20031104233000.nuv.tmp

The resulting .tmp file is a different size each time.

I haven't been able to fiddle with this problem much yet,
just thought I'd add some info.
