Sounds much the same as my system.

P3 - 840Mhz
384Mb Ram
20Gb HD
PVR-250
GF4 440MX
SB Live 5.1

Using LinuxFromScratch (Custom Built Linux).

With this system recording takes almost nothing (maybe 1 - 
2 %).  Playback however take about 40%  but this is full 
size PAL (720x576)

All features of MythTV work.

Currently running CVS.

The only problem I have is with autostarting MythTV with X 
but thats more user error than anything else.
