I'm running Gentoo as well.  I'm in the process of running an 
'emerge --deep -u all' right now.  We'll see what happens.  If it fixes things 
though, it will highlight one of Gentoo's weaknessess.  It's so easy to upgrade
everything that debugging is almost impossible :)
