I currently have this error too. I found that if I load the modules via
a command line I can get around this error. I have a PVR-350 and PlayTV
pro card.
modprobe ivtv (PVR-350)
insmod bttv gbuffers=32 radio=1 card=37 (PlayTV pro)
test_ioctl -p 0
test_ioctl -u 255
for some reason I can then 'mplayer /dev/video0' and get audio and
video. I haven't investigated why this is happening I just know that
this routine works for me.
I hope this helps.

Subject: [mythtv-users] PVR-250 no longer captures
I had it working, honest :) Except for some ghosting in my captures I
thought I was home free. But now my PVR-250 no longer does a test
capture,
and gives me:
#cat /dev/video0 > test.mpg
cat: /dev/video0: Input/output error
Syslog tells me:
May 28 23:05:00 pvr kernel: ivtv: init error 1. Code -16
May 28 23:05:01 pvr kernel: ivtv: init error 2. Code -16

May 28 23:05:25 pvr kernel: ivtv: Timeout waiting for data!
The last steps I took were to run this to fix the ghosting and reboot:
./test_ioctl --set-codec-params=dnr_mode=0,dnr_temporal=0
Rebooted several times and still can't get a simple cat /dev/video0
capture. This is more likely a ivtv thing, but I thought I would try
here
first and see if anyone has run into it. I'm running Mandrake 9.1,
CVS'd
mythtv, ivtv with Hauppauge drive pvr250_16_21062.exe. Any ideas?
Thanks to the developers for all their efforts.
Steve
