Yes... more accurately:

Software:

mythfrontend:	program that provides user interface (menus, etc) and playback
mythbackend:	daemon that handles recording (should be running always)

Hardware:

front end:	machine running mythfrontend, used for watching TV & recordings.
may have multiple front end machines. Needs sound out & TV out, and either
a keyboard or an IR remote. Zero or minimal disk space needed. Myth add-on
modules (mythmusic, mythvideo, mythweather, mythgallery) run on the front
end only (for now).

back end:	machine running mythbackend. Needs TV tuner card and a sound card
(unless your TV card does btaudio). Needs a hard disk with DMA enabled and
space for recordings. May have multiple back end machines, one is master &
others are slaves.

All machines need network connectivity.

In addition, a single machine can be both a back end & a front end, provided
the system has enough resources (CPU, etc) to handle it. If you combine
your front & back ends, you either need a sound card & drivers capable of
full duplex, or a TV card capable of btaudio (or a hardware MPEG card like
the PVR-250/350 -- thats "MPEG" *NOT* "MJPEG" -- Matrox G400 doesn't
qualify!!)
