I temporarily tried my MX440 (NV17) in my myth box and the overscan option
in the new drivers worked fine for me. Do you have it in the right section
of XF86Config? My setting was about 0.75 for my TV. I will still have the
line in the config file if you can wait (box isn't here). From memory I
initially had it in the wrong section too.

Currently though I use a GF2 MX since I was getting some interference
patterns with the MX440 that really annoyed me.
