Hi again,
Thanks to everyone on MythTV-users (thanks especially to Bruce Markey) I have
been steered far away from the ATI All-In-Wonder 8500DV as a MythTV capture
device. Shame, 'cause it's a nice card and works well in Windows... but MythTV
doesn't. Oh well... back to the drawing board.
Here's my new plan for hardware configuration:
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti500 (64mb, AGP)
Capture card: ATI TV Wonder VE (PCI)
Remote: ATI Remote Wonder (USB)
...on a P4, at least 2.5 ghz, on an Intel motherboard with 512mb to 1gb of
RAM. I'm going to use Mandrake 9.1 and one or two 160GB 7200rpm hard drives. I
was going to try to use gigabit ethernet to allow other machines to connect as
well.
Questions:
1. What does everyone think of the TV Wonder VE? I noticed that it was
mentioned on http://www.mythtv.org/modules.php?name=MythInfo as the first card to be
used with MythTV so I'm assuming it'll work. Does resolution, framerate, and
overall video quality match up with the All-in-wonder series (yes I know the
AIW's don't work, but on Windows they have full NTSC resolution and 30fps which
is what I'm looking for.)
2. Will the gf3 Ti500 work well in Linux? In MythTV? I need good performance
as well as TV out.
3. I think this has been talked about already, but will the ATI Remote Wonder
work with MythTV? Can I map the buttons to functions in MythTV (i.e. could
button A switch to "Watch TV" mode)? Of course the Play, pause, record, etc.
would need to be used as well. FYI, the Remote Wonder is the same remote that
comes with the AIW's and the nicer TV Wonders.
Thanks again!
