depends on what kind of RAID you set up.  But basically, a RAID is a
RAID..  the main problem with software is that if you lose your OS, you
lose your data, too.  for the most part.

You could also look into using LVM if you just wanted to do raid0.  LVM
can be dynamically resized if you want to add another drive someday.
