I don't see your problem. The computional intensive encoding happens in 
the backend, and that is separate from the frontend anyways, it can run 
on one of the fast servers (which then have to have a tv card, which 
they have to anyways - streaming unencoded video over the network won't 
be fun). The client with the frontend then only decodes. The video will 
stream from the backend to the frontend as compressed video, that's how 
mythtv is architectured.
