Hey, I figured out the usb problem! Simply go to the bios and disable
compatibility mode (or similar name, I forget exactly) for usb and
everything starts working! None of my devices seem to need it anyway.
With this resolved I can now heartily recommend the Asus A7N266-VM for
those trying to put together a cheap amd based myth machine. It has
onboard sound, nic, graphics, and usb that are all very good. The
graphics card isn't very grunty so no gaming with it, but it kicks ass
for mythtv. And I got mine for less that $70
things to keep in mind, at least for redhat 8.0
1) use lilo, not grub
2) use text based install, not graphical
3) install drivers for nforce board and graphics from nvidia.com. This
will enable the nic, usb, accelerated graphics and sound.
4) turn off usb compatablility mode in the bios
5) use alsa, not the Red Hat included OSS sound drivers if you need full
duplex (and you probably do).
best,
cedar
