[mythtv-users] mythtv or ivtv messing up my low res settings?

howdy.

let me begin by thanking everyone for their help over the weeks getting my system up. i have my email sends turned off, i just post a question and then read about it on the archive board, so i don't get a chance to thank people when they respond usually. well, thanks.

okay, here's my latest issue. at some point in the past week when updating mythtv to 0.13 and installing the latest ivtv drivers i somehow broke my low res. settings. my live-tv and hi res. settings are 3600/4000 bit stream @ 352x480 and it seems to work pretty well on my old, crappy tv with composite inputs. my low res. / default settings are 1200/1800 bit stream @ 352x240 and they used to work out pretty well for recording cartoons for the kid and other non-critical daily recordings. honestly, on my tv i can barely tell the difference between 240 and 480 width. also, the two settings work out well for transcoding when you use the setting 'change stream based on picture size' or whatever that setting is as it will cut the stream in half for the low res. recordings (at least i think it does, i've never actually done any tests on this theory).

so sometime in the last week the low res. settings are no good. the stream out of my pvr-250 gets very dark and/or light. the contrast seems to go way down, lighter colors get washed out and darker colors turn very black. now, i can keep the bit/sec stream the same (say 1200) and adjust the res. from 352x240 to 352x480 and the color will come back. unfortunately the size is now doubled so the picture doesn't look nearly as good because it's trying to track twice the number of pixels with the same bit stream.

so i'm wondering if anyone else notices this problem and what, if anything, folks have done to get a good picture with a pvr-250 and under 480 lines. i know it was working at one point, as i have many recordings at 352x240 that look just fine, but i can't seem to get them any longer.

as always, thanks for the help.
