In the Xine docs, there is a way to use a networked DVD player.

You might also investigate network streaming with xine.

In MythVideo, you need to export the MythVideo directory from the
backend and have all frontends mount this in the SAME directory (i.e. if
the backend stores videos in /mnt/VIDEO, export this via nfs and have
the frontends mount it to /mnt/VIDEO locally. You also need to copy over
the ~/.mythtv/MythVideo files onto each frontend.

At least as of .12
