Thanks for the pointer.  It was a bit more subtle than just failing to
install first.  I actually did read the instructions and make and
install mythtv before trying to compile mythvideo.  However I hadn't
noticed that the installation was not completely successful.  I was
compiling under my login, not as root, and I did not have write
permissions on the /usr/local/include/mythtv directory.

So it was a dumb mistake on my part (not looking carefully through the
compile/install transcript) but not quite as dumb as not reading the
installation docs.  :-)
