Ffdshow is what you need.
I have tested to play mpeg4 encoded .nuv files with divx 5 and it gets
blocky sometimes, its not too anoying.
I haven't found the cause of that yet, but im guessing that the mpeg4
created by mythtv doesn't follow the standard or something like that.

The directshow filters don't contain any mpeg4 decoding, they just hand the
video stream to whatever filter mpeg4 filter you have installed.
