I'm in agreement for purposes such as this. Everybody has their own
preferences of course. Here are mine:
There should be one "official" forum. This seems to be it, and I have little
interest in participating in a forum where the primary developers are absent.
I realize it may be old-school thinking, but mailing lists are exactly suited
to this purpose. Web forums are IMHO a clumsy attempt to emulate the same
type of function, but with more overhead, less flexibility, and significant
security vulnerability.
I don't want to have to "go to the forum" all the time to see what's up, I
want to list to come to me. I want to have offline archive access and my
choice of interface. Instead of having to go visit web forums all day, I have
all my lists come to one place all nice and organized. Each to our own ways,
I guess. I prefer mail lists to forums.
