When I posted on that thread that avidemux wouldn't work, it was close to the 
time when somebody patched that problem. I know for certain tha tthe most 
recent version of avidemux2 can properly recognize and process PVR250 encoded 
MPEG2 .nuv MythTV files. :)

I think we have one or more people working on this, fortunately. There are 
different approaches, including a rough python script posted recently to 
automate this with avidemux.

I was using something similar, but found that I was spending about as much 
time adjusting the cutpoints by hand in MythTV edit mode as it takes to set 
cutpoints manually in avidemux2, so now I don't bother with the cutlist in 
the database. I realized this would continue to be an issue until commercial 
detection improves. (This is by NO means a slam at the detection code, I'm a 
big fan! It's just that I have higher standards for archiving to plastic than 
I have for casual viewing. ;)
