Search the archives. I posted a HOWTO for this in late October. Do a
search on the Gossamer archives for "vga hdtv modelines ian".

Ian being me.

In fact, about 3 weeks ago I broke my HDTV setup and had to fall back to
SVideo out. I dug up my old post and followed it successfully. (That's
the value of a mailing list. You can always find something from back
when you were smarter. ;) )

No worries. So was I.

Mine too. And I agree. Especially after having 960x540p now working on
mine. Answers to the original question are inline...

Yes. I used a VGA->Component box by RCA (the company) available at
Fry's for $99.

Follow the HOWTO. I haven't tried 1920x1080i yet, because I'd need a
monitor that can do it to test and finetune the mode.

And that's the truth. Ironically, I bought a GeForce FX4200 with TV-Out
because I figured I'd need the TV-Out functionality. Turns out, I only
needed it for as long as it would take to get HDTV working via VGA... ;)
