Would it be hard to capture the Closed Captioning text in the database 
for each show, timed with a "timing marker"?  Then you could query for 
shows of interest.  If news is your thing, you could set your machine to 
capture all the news shows then you could query the captioned text for 
things of interest which would return a list of shows that are 
interesting to you.  Then if you play the show it could take you 
straight to the part of interest rather than playing the whole show and 
having to find the interesting part.  This would be great for finding 
things in newscasts, like show me all the Space Shuttle stories or any 
story that mentions "Clinton with Lewinski".
