The size of the file is dependent upon the bitrate not the resolution. To
get a smaller size file, reduce the bitrate.

Subject: [mythtv-users] PVR250: 480x480 vs 720x480

Hello Everybody,

Up until a few days ago I had been using 480x480 2500-4000
bitrate for recording and getting 1.3G/hour. My wife got a
dvd/tv combo last weekend though and it can't play misc
mpgs burned to DVD like my other player. So I changed the
default res to 720x480 and waited to see my 1.3G files
swell up to 2G or more. Well, that didn't happen. I still
get 1.3G/hour. I thought I must have screwed up the change
and it didn't stick. Nope, it's recording at 720x480 and I
can make a DVD which plays just fine in the dvd/tv combo.

What gives? Why is 480x480 and 720x480 producing the same
file size?

Thanks,
Jeff
