The problem both Chris and you are having sounds like old ivtv
drivers...

Since you're having so many problems w/self-compiled software, I'd
highly recommend you try grabbing everything you can from ATrpms. There
are fully functional, pre-compiled ivtv and alsa binary rpm packages.
I'd at least suggest trying them as a reference point.

I've had zero problems with either OSS or ALSA under Red Hat Linux 9,
under multiple versions of MythTV, and on several different
computers... But yes, try killing off artsd in KDE...

I doubt the problem is with MythTV. If it compiled, it should be fine,
unless you did something very abnormal. It is more likely either your
capture card drivers, or your sound card drivers.
