I'm also interested,
but I tried following the instructions at http://bootsplash.org, and the
kernel patch didn't entirely work, and now my kernel won't recompile...
(Redhat 8, btw)

(Mandrake 9.2 beta2 has bootsplash support, so hopefully setting up your
nice Myth splash will be easy in Mandrake 9.2....)
