[mythtv-users] MythTV core structure.

No, that's NOT what I am asking. Maybe I didn't state it correctly.

I'll dig into the code and make some more intelligent suggestions after
seeing more of the internal workings. Like I said, I want to use MythX to
be the frontend to thousands of (internally)shared files and I need it to
all be rather simplified, but elegant in the way those files are accessed,
search, played, etc. IOW I don't want to just pick a file from a listbox
all the time, something more like a tree structure is needed when dealing
with that many files. Also there is the issue of playlists, such as mp3s
organized in a hierarchical file structure which contain album info, but
also may have several playlists that are not albums... this is where it all
gets rather confusing and I have yet to see a decent scenario that a
non-geek can use and be happy with.

When I have more collected architectural concepts I will present them.
Resistance to change and defense of the current system is fine, but I really
do think I can help make this a better system for everyone, I just need to
present them here in a better manner.

Don't misunderstand me, I think MythTV is great, I only want to make it
better, not rewrite the whole damn thing.

<snip>

So now, not only would you introduce a dependency on NFS or Samba, but you'd
also like to make Myth be able to do NFS/Samba automatic client
configuration? Sounds like a bit much. I'd think it'd be much easier to
just extend the existing Myth backend resource serving (currently just
recorded program streams) to other file types, and update the plugin modules
to request files from the backend instead of directly through the file
system. Isaac may not want to invest time in that, but he didn't say he
wouldn't accept patches.
