I'm a bit hazy on the sis630 X server, but ... does it support xVideo (xv)? 
When playback uses a lot of CPU (50% on a Cel 1.2 GHz would be about right 
for this), it *can* mean that X is using xShm (X Shared memory) to handle 
video, which is a lot more CPU intensive.
