node, like rust and go, have built an
ecosystem where you have a large
number of dependencies which do
one (small) thing (very) well.
The major distros have had a
substantial challenge with this type
of packaging as a package which
depends on dozens (perhaps
hundreds) of packages, which may
have numerous dependencies,
does not fit well with their "build from
source" during build philosophies,
and individual packagers not wanting
to support dozens (perhaps hundreds)
of additional packages for their one
small thing.
I have a couple of (what I think would
be) useful rust packages for a distro
I mostly use which have so many
dependencies I have never gotten
around to finishing the full build
dependency package list packaging
(I stopped after I had gone a few
levels deep, as there was not a clear
end state, and I did not have
adequate tooling at the time to figure
out all the dependencies of all the
dependencies to know if there was
a viable end state without me having
to packages hundreds of additional
packages).
Welcome to the new development
world.
