My setup is very similar, 2 monitors VGA/HDMI, the resolutions are different - 
1440x900 and 1920x1080. I'm also using an 8200 with the proprietary driver and  
I'm using twinview (not xinerama).

I'm unable to reproduce the problem, photos are shown at the correct scale and 
aspect ratio with no cropping.

So this appears to be due in some way to how you've configured your screens.
