well i built a more up to date version and i do believe the problem is 
now fixed. i cannot be 100% definite because i was getting all sorts of 
other (unrelated) problems changing channels. but from what i could 
tell, the channel and input are now "sticky"; irrespective of how the 
channel was changed (up arrow/down arrow/channel browser/direct channel 
number entry).
